My Scouting Journey

In 2018, the first year girls were allowed in the BSA, I joined Troop 189 and became one of the founding members of 189 G. We soon named our patrol The River Turtles, which has stayed with us for seven years. Even though members come and go Troop 189 has become my second family. We truly interact with each other in such a unique way, and I am eternally grateful to have this experience with these people.

Being in Troop 189 has offered a plethora of special experiences and bonding moments.  From our monthly camping trips to our weekly meetings, every minute I spend with my troop mates is time well spent.

Not only has Troop 189 offered me so many amazing experiences, but it has also helped me grow so much as a person. When I joined, I was ultra-shy and had little to no leadership skills. Through 189, I have been able to attend National Youth Leadership Training and then the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience.

As well as growing my leadership through the training camps I have had the amazing opportunity to attend Philmont Scout Ranch twice. The first time was a 12-day hiking trek where we covered a total of 72 miles.  The second was an 8-day horseback riding trek where we covered around 30 miles. Both experiences were life-changing and majorly contributed to the person I am today.
